Birth & Postpartum Preparation in Zurich

Making space for what lies ahead.

Expecting a baby brings a lot to think about. How birth works, which choices you may face, and what those first days at home might look like. And then there are the questions that don’t always get answered in books or antenatal classes.

Our private classes give you the time and space to explore these topics in depth. We cover the practical aspects of birth and postpartum, as well as the feelings, expectations and uncertainties that come with becoming a parent.

You can join on your own or with your birth partner. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you, answer your questions and explore each topic at your own pace.

What we cover

Two classes, from birth to the first weeks at home.

Our preparation is divided into two classes. One focuses on birth itself, the other on postpartum recovery and feeding. Both combine practical guidance with space for conversation, reflection and your questions.

Class 01 · Birth

Understanding birth and your choices

From late pregnancy to the first moments with your baby.

We’ll look at what happens during labour, how the body works and the different ways you can be supported. We’ll also talk about medical care, decision-making and what to consider when things don’t go as expected.

What we’ll cover:

  • The physiology of labour and birth, including the role of hormones
  • Breathing, movement, positions and touch for comfort
  • Pain relief options, both medical and non-medical
  • How your birth partner or chosen support person can help
  • Making informed decisions using the BRAIN framework
  • Medical interventions, assisted birth and caesarean birth
  • Exploring your preferences and writing your birth intentions

We’ll also make time to talk about your expectations, anything you’re unsure about and what you’d like your care team to know.

Class 02 · Postpartum & Feeding

Finding your feet in the first weeks

From the first days at home to life as a new family.

We’ll look at how the body recovers after birth, what caring for a newborn involves and the emotional changes that come with becoming a parent. We’ll also talk about feeding, sleep and where to find support.

What we’ll cover:

  • Recovery after vaginal or caesarean birth and pelvic floor health
  • Postpartum hormones, emotions and mental wellbeing
  • Feeding your baby and finding an approach that works for you
  • Newborn care, behaviour and recognising your baby’s needs
  • Sleep, crying and navigating the first nights
  • Relationships, sharing tasks and organising support at home
  • Postpartum care in Switzerland, including midwife home visits

We’ll also make time to talk about your expectations and how to recognise when you or your family might need extra support.

“Not alone is the child born through the mother, but the mother also is born through the child.”
